If you’re looking for an ergonomic office chair, you don’t necessarily have to dig deep into your pockets or settle for rickety designs from the furniture store. This is exactly where the Sharkoon OfficePal C10 comes in: solid features, modern ergonomics and a fair price. Our detailed practical test clarifies whether this is possible and how the chair performs in everyday use.
Unboxing and description
The Sharkoon OfficePal C10 comes in a robust, inconspicuously printed cardboard box with clearly visible weight warnings. With a gross weight of just under 19 kg, the package is no lightweight, but can still be handled easily on its own thanks to the carrying straps. Multilingual product information, including the most important features, is neatly printed on the back.
As soon as you open the box, you can see that Sharkoon thinks not only about the product, but also about the environment. Instead of cheap polystyrene or superfluous plastic packaging, cardboard is used for the most part. The individual components are neatly packed in plain textile bags and well protected without producing unnecessary waste. Only the nylon base is additionally wrapped in bubble wrap, which is understandable in this case for protection. Overall, the packaging is well thought out, secure and pleasantly minimalist. A small but important plus point, especially in times of increasing environmental responsibility. I like that, and it shows that even budget products don’t have to come at the expense of sustainability.
The backrest of the OfficePal C10 features a mesh fabric that not only looks modern, but also ensures pleasant air circulation, especially during long periods of sitting. A real plus point in summer. The shape follows an ergonomic line that supports the back well without constricting. The 3D-adjustable lumbar support, which can be adjusted in height, depth and inclination, is particularly practical, allowing you to quickly find the right setting for your own back. Thanks to the comfort rocking mechanism with adjustable resistance and tilt angle lock (0°-35°), the backrest can also be used flexibly. The rocking function ensures natural freedom of movement when seated, which is good for back health, while the backrest can also be locked in a fixed position if required, ideal for concentrated work. The mechanism is solid and smooth-running, without excessive play. With a backrest height of 60 cm and a stable connection to the frame, the result is an all-round comfortable and adjustable seating area that is ideal for both long office days and short breaks.
The headrest of the OfficePal C10 is fortunately 3D-adjustable, i.e. it can be adjusted in height, depth and inclination. This is anything but a matter of course in this price range and looks like a real comfort upgrade on paper. In practice, however, it turns out that although the adjustment options are available, they are not particularly sensitive. Tall users in particular may find it difficult to position the support so that it has a truly ergonomic grip without pressing on the neck or sitting too high. The plastic joint used seems a little wobbly, but remains stable enough for everyday use. For the price, the implementation is absolutely fine. Anyone not expecting millimeter-precise adjustment but simply looking for some support for the back of the head when leaning back will not be disappointed. For long-term, upright work, however, the headrest is more of an accessory than a real highlight.
The seat of the OfficePal C10 measures 50 x 50 centimetres and therefore offers sufficient space for users of average build. The molded foam used, with a density of 45 kg/m³, initially provides a pleasantly firm seat that does not sag immediately even after several hours. One positive aspect is that the foam is not spongy, but is more supportive than yielding when sitting, a clear plus point for those who prefer to sit a little more firmly. However, there are also some minor limitations. The front section of the seat is cut relatively straight and does not have a steeply sloping edge, which can lead to slight pressure on the thighs during longer periods of sitting, especially for users with longer legs. The width is also completely sufficient for normal builds, but those who are a little sturdier or expect a lot of freedom of movement may reach their limits here. Overall, the seat provides a decent basis for everyday use without offering premium comfort. For a chair in this price range, however, the result is absolutely satisfactory – and anyone who regularly stands up or sits dynamically will not notice any serious weaknesses here.
The base of the OfficePal C10 is made entirely of nylon, which makes the chair relatively light and at the same time offers solid stability. For the price, this is a common choice, but by no means a bad one. The plastic material feels robust and looks durable, even if it doesn’t quite match the quality of metal bases. With a diameter of around 60 centimetres, the base offers sufficient stability and, together with the 60 mm castors, ensures a secure hold on various floor coverings. Overall, the nylon base fulfills its purpose without any problems and contributes to good handling in everyday life without adding unnecessary weight or costs.
The armrests of the OfficePal C10 are among the simpler representatives of their kind. They are height-adjustable (1D) and can be adjusted with a pleasantly smooth-running mechanism. This is absolutely sufficient for everyday use, and they make a stable and solid impression, especially when working at the desk or occasionally leaning back. The pads themselves measure 24 x 7.5 cm and are made of foamed plastic, which unfortunately doesn’t give much. Those who are used to somewhat softer surfaces will have to get used to them. There are also no side or depth-adjustable options, which is particularly noticeable when changing working positions or for users with special proportions. One positive aspect, however, is that the armrests hardly wobble and sit firmly in their anchorage, with no rattling or bouncing. For a chair in this price range, this is not a given. All in all, the armrests deliver exactly what you would expect – no more, but also no less. If you don’t need sophisticated 4D adjustment and are simply looking for stable, height-adjustable supports, you won’t be disappointed.
The class 4 gas pressure spring supplied appears to be solidly made and, according to the manufacturer, can support up to 110 kg, which is more than sufficient for the target group of this chair. The stroke is smooth and even, just as you would expect. The 60 mm castors come in a simple plastic housing, are easy to insert and run quietly and smoothly on hard floors. The accessory package is pleasingly clear: all screws are clearly sorted and labeled, and even a suitable Allen key with a plastic handle is included. This means that assembly does not become a tinkering session. A good solution, neatly packaged, just the way it should be.
