Edifier Luna Eclipse E25HD active 2.0 stereo loudspeakers review – Same as always – and that’s thw good news!

The Edifier Luna Eclipse E25HD active 2.0 stereo speakers have been on the market for a number of years and have been particularly appreciated for their combination of extravagant design and sonic performance in the desktop sector. In an earlier review of mine – published almost exactly 8 years ago – they were evaluated in combination with the separately available E235 subwoofer system, which significantly extended the low-frequency range and gave the overall sound image more volume. Unfortunately, this subwoofer module is no longer officially available, reducing the system configuration to a pure 2.0 setup.

Precisely because of this change and some revised technical features, a modified amplifier configuration and slightly adapted signal processing, the idea arose for a new and independent evaluation of the current model, even without the extra bass booster. This review therefore focuses exclusively on the current E25HD range without the subwoofer extension, but including the accompanying SS01C speaker stands, which are now available as official accessories. And they certainly deserve to be included in the picture.

Another reason for this re-evaluation lies in the market development itself: Compact loudspeakers with DSP and digital crossover have gained considerable market share since the first release of the Luna series. The claim to continue to assert itself in this class requires continuous product care – Edifier has tried to do just that with the E25HD and has found many buyers despite the very unconventional design. The current street price of around 172 euros is not extremely high if you take all aspects into account. Well, cheaper is of course always possible, but unfortunately more expensive is too.

Edifier was founded in Beijing in 1996 and positioned itself early on as a provider of high-quality, design-oriented audio solutions for consumers in the mid to upper price segment. Initially, the company concentrated heavily on OEM production, particularly for international electronics manufacturers, but increasingly shifted its focus to its own branded products in the course of the 2000s. With the acquisition of the long-established Japanese hi-fi manufacturer STAX in 2012, Edifier clearly demonstrated that it was pursuing ambitions beyond the pure PC speaker business.

To this day, Edifier’s product philosophy follows a close connection between technology, design and user-friendliness. The Luna series (also known internally as the E25) is a prime example of this claim. It was originally developed as a powerful-sounding but living room-compatible solution for use with computers, televisions or mobile devices – with a focus on wireless connectivity, digital signal processing and a decidedly modern design language. Edifier is not pursuing a radical innovation policy, but is instead focusing on technical consolidation, moderate further development and platform maintenance.

Unboxing and scope of delivery

The Edifier Luna Eclipse E25HD speakers are characterized by their futuristic design and compact construction. They are available in red, black and white and blend harmoniously into modern living and working environments. The combination of high-gloss finish and curved shapes gives the speakers an aesthetic appeal.

When unpacking the Edifier Luna Eclipse E25HD, you immediately notice the careful packaging, which ensures safe transportation. The scope of delivery includes:

• A connection cable between the speakers

• One remote control

• A mains adapter

• A short instruction manual

The remote control supplied enables convenient control of the speaker functions.

SS01C speaker stands

The SS01C speaker stands have been specially developed for the Luna Eclipse E25HD and offer optimum positioning of the speakers at ear level. With a height of 77 cm and an angled top, they ensure improved sound dispersion. The stands are available in black, white and red to complement the color variants of the speakers. The stands also come with a mini optical cable, a 3.5 mm audio extension cable and a speaker cable. The rubber feet on the underside of the stands minimize vibrations and increase stability.

Technical details

The Edifier Luna Eclipse E25HD have a total output of 74 watts RMS, divided into 15 watts per channel for the tweeters and 22 watts per channel for the woofers. Each speaker is equipped with a 19 mm silk dome tweeter and a 76.2 mm woofer. A Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and Dynamic Range Compression (DRC) are used for signal processing to minimize distortion and ensure even sound reproduction.

Passive bass radiators are also integrated to extend the bass range. The frequency range extends from 50 Hz to 20 kHz.

In terms of connectivity, the speakers offer Bluetooth 4.0, a 3.5 mm aux input and an optical digital input. Control is via touch-sensitive buttons on the active speaker or via the supplied remote control.

The Edifier Luna Eclipse E25HD speakers offer a successful combination of attractive design and solid sound quality. In combination with the SS01C speaker stands, the result is a well thought-out overall concept for use in various environments. But we already know that.
