Structure
Before assembly, we first took a quick look at the neatly illustrated assembly instructions.
The basic principle of assembling the base is always the same or at least very similar for electrically adjustable desks: place the table top upside down on the floor, mount the table legs and feet, turn it over and then mount the remaining attachments. This is also how it is described for the Magnus Pro XL – i.e. turn the table top over and lay it flat on the floor.
The mounting points of the table legs are labeled and the cables are even colour-coded so that you don’t get confused at this point.
If circumstances require it, you can also swap the table legs (right-left), but then you have to reverse the wiring of the motors so that they still run synchronously. I wanted to show this option as part of the review and then forgot to swap the legs again in the heat of the moment..
To keep the cable clutter as manageable as possible, one table leg is fitted with a 230V socket, which in turn is connected to the floor using an IEC cable.
Once the legs have been screwed together, the rear extension for the hinged cable duct is added. The profile for screwing the hinges is simply pushed into the basic construction and screwed into place.
The tray of the cable duct is made of sheet metal and feels a little wobbly at first, but looks quite stable after assembly.
The large feet are quickly fitted:
And then the entire construct could be turned around.
In this position, the hinged cover of the cable duct can be easily fitted.
The end caps for the metal rails were still missing:
And of course the full-surface magnetic desk pad.
The “White Edition” comes with the light gray leatherette mat as standard. You can also deselect this when ordering, but I wouldn’t want to do without this feature and buying it separately would cost €89 (instead of €49 in a bundle with the desk).
In the end, positioning the desk pad turned out to be the most complicated part of the entire assembly. After 5 or 6 attempts, the alignment was finally successful.
The imitation leather carpet pad has a stylish decorative seam and embroidered logo. Initial waves (as in the next picture with the control unit) “straightened out” by themselves after a few days.
The height adjustment control unit can be switched on and off using a switch so that the height display and button lighting are not permanently active.
This concludes the assembly of the Magnus Pro XL. On the following page, I will present and install a few more extensions.
