Summary and conclusion
I initially had some problems getting the MiniTower’s RAID1 functionality to work. The left HDD seen from the front could be removed during operation to simulate a failure without any problems. But as soon as the right HDD was no longer present, the RAID no longer appeared in Windows. After I formatted everything again and set it up again, it then worked perfectly with both HDDs.

Windows even uses the name behind the ASM1352R to show which mode is active and whether everything is running as it should. If it says “Safe”, the RAID1 has been successfully created. Even if it is actually aimed at a Mac Mini, the combination with this Minisforum AI X1 also looks quite smart, doesn’t it?

With the HDDs, the 10Gbps uplink connection to the mini PC is not an issue, but with the theoretically possible 7000MB/s read and 3900MB/s write speed of the NVMe SSD, it is of course more of an issue. So you don’t need to install the fastest SSD. Thanks to the supplied cooler, however, it has already remained cool under load with a peak temperature of 46°C.

What I was still missing was a supplied tip for pressing the SET button on the back. Fortunately, I still had a SIM eject tool to hand, but if a screwdriver was included, this would certainly also be possible. I also noticed that the dock doesnt switches off the hard disk automatically after the connected system has been shut down.
With the code “MINITOWER10” there is a 10% discount at Amazon. This is a referral link, but I do not accept any commissions offered by the manufacturer. Neither I nor IgorsLab earn money by using the voucher code provided.
The final price of around 117 euros resulting from using the code seemed a bit high to me at first. However, I couldn’t find a cheaper alternative right away that could accommodate two HDDs and an M.2 SSD and combined the RAID functionality offered here. I also have nothing to criticize about the workmanship, if you look for the mix of functions offered here, the Orico MiniTower makes a good impression not only for Apple devices.
The test sample was provided by Orico without obligation. There was and is no influence on the tests and results. There was also no compensation for expenses and no obligation to publish.
