Grayscale, color fidelity, saturation and gamut to factory settings
The fact that the Samsung QD-OLED panel can shine in terms of color space coverage should be well known. The lucky owner of such a monitor can look forward to sRGB, P3 and Adobe RGB. There is also the “infinite” contrast, which will amaze anyone who sees it for the first time. The only question that remains is whether MSI has given the MPG321URX a good factory calibration?
Color space coverage
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ Default Settings (10 % APL)
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ OSD sRGB Mode (10 % APL)
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ OSD DCI-P3 Mode (10 % APL)
Gray Scale, Saturation, ColorChecker @ OSD Adobe RGB Mode ( 10 % APL)
Interim conclusion
Once again, the factory settings do not match the standard color space at all. The panel shoots 83 percent Rec. 2020 color space in your face, which seems so blatant at first because most people have probably never seen such a color feast. The disadvantage is that most of the content on the web is mastered in sRGB and the colors then basically have nothing to do with what the creator intended. Fortunately, MSI provides a good sRGB mode for this. The other color space presets were also implemented acceptably.
MSI could offer its employees a refresher course on the RGB balance or they should visit the eye doctor regularly – you have to see these deviations. MSI leaves a little performance behind. At least MSI manages to keep the promised DeltaE < 2. I’ll turn a blind eye here because the Adobe RGB mode is slightly higher. What annoys me once again is that MSI locks these presets in the OSD – once again, you can’t adjust the RGB balance. MSI: Why?
