Everyone has to accept that AI is now present in many areas. Whether at work, at school or in everyday life, AI is playing an increasingly important role in the world. Of course, you can try to keep as much distance as possible and use AI only minimally. For owners of an LG TV, however, this could become more difficult. As Reddit user defjam16 reported in the subreddit r/mildlyinfuriating, Microsoft Copilot was automatically installed after a WebOS update and can no longer be removed.
According to this, the Microsoft Copilot tile can neither be uninstalled nor completely deleted, but only hidden. This behavior is also confirmed by other Reddit users in the comments under the corresponding post. Apparently, this is related to the LG “Live Plus” function. If this is activated, the TV recognizes which content is currently being played. The aim is to better identify content and offer an optimized viewing experience based on this viewing data. This could be personalized content, recommendations and advertising, for example. Ultimately, this means that user data is processed and evaluated in a personalized way.
Users who do not want to use this function or want to reduce tracking to a minimum can deactivate “Live Plus” in the advanced settings. However, Microsoft Copilot remains installed on the system and cannot be removed, as it functions as a system app. Even if AI is supposed to make everyday life easier, the user should actually have the choice of whether to use it or not. There should be no compulsion to do so. Anyone who neither wants to see nor use the app ultimately only has the option of hiding it, not logging in or not connecting the TV to the internet. However, the latter can be problematic, as a TV that is permanently disconnected from the network may lose support for apps. In the end, everyone has to decide for themselves how they want to deal with this.
