Perhaps some of you are familiar with the problem: you are playing a game in full-screen mode and want to switch windows briefly, but instead the screen goes black or it takes a moment for everything to react again. For players who like to switch between windows, this wastes time unnecessarily and can also cause a crash. This is exactly where the developer AndrewMD5 came in with Borderless Gaming. This program forces games into a borderless full-screen mode to solve such problems. However, the software was hardly developed further for many years, 11 years, 7 months and 18 days to be precise, which shows that it was rather neglected. Now, however, a new update has been released that provides a breath of fresh air and could win over many a gamer.

With Borderless Gaming 1.0, the developer releases the first major new version. The core of the program has been completely redeveloped so that games that were previously incompatible are now also supported.
Games that never worked before? They work now. The windowing engine has been rewritten from the ground up to handle more titles and all the weird stuff even the most obscure game might throw at it.
One of the biggest innovations are the so-called app containers. What does that mean? Games that only offer low resolutions can now run in a container. An individual background can be selected – whether monochrome, with images or color gradients. The game window can also be zoomed flexibly. Instead of the old favorites, there are now profiles with which settings can be managed more conveniently. It is also possible for old games to adapt natively to the screen so that you do not have a minimal window. The following functions have been introduced:
-
User-defined window sizes
-
Remove game menus
-
Mute on Alt-Tab (without touching the window)
-
Hide mouse pointer
-
Lock cursor in window
-
Custom delays for persistent games

According to this, other interesting functions are being worked on. The most interesting will probably be BGUS and BGFG. The former will include upscaling for all games, which should be similar to DLSS. In addition, BGFG will focus on frame generation so that games run more smoothly. However, the program is not free, as the price on Steam is 6.89 euros (8.07 USD). #
