Nanya is not a typo in a fantasy novel, but a lesser known and actually the world’s fourth largest DRAM manufacturer, after Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. Nanya is perhaps best known from the DDR4 era, where their 8 Gbit B-Die was able to imitate the well-known Samsung 8 Gbit B-Die in many aspects and was one of the few high-performance, low-latency alternatives at the time. It took a few years, but now Nanya also offers DDR5, and today we take a closer look at the first product from the underdog from Taiwan.
Unboxing and specifications
Retail product, yes. Retail packaging, no. Even though I bought the modules as a private customer from an online retailer in Europe, the outer packaging is rather spartan Enterprise level. No product information, warranty information, etc. – nothing. That’s not necessarily a bad thing and as a buyer of “green sticks” you shouldn’t expect anything more. For my part, I find the carrier frame for UDIMM and SODIMM modules, which was used here as shipping packaging, very practical as a photo prop or for storing RAM.
In fact, there are even 2 different modules today, recognizable by the different suffix of the product number. Both were available in the store and I was simply interested in the difference, so I got one of each.
NT16GF64F88AX3F-Q54 or -Q51 is the product number of the respective module, which we can read from the sticker. In addition to the Nanya lettering and logo, there is also a serial number and the specifications. These are DDR5 UDIMMs with a capacity of 16 GB each, organized in a rank (1R) with x8 bit width per IC, which in turn results in a total bus width of 64 bits (8×8=64).
The binning level is 5600B, i.e. DDR5-5600 with JEDEC timings, although there is also a 4800 variant according to the manufacturer’s website. In addition, the production week 2024 week 50 and 51 (2450 / 2451) and the production location Taiwan can be seen.
You can’t really say any more about the modules. They are just 5600 16 GB single-rank DDR5 UDIMMs, like the vast majority of consumer RAM modules on the market at the moment. The PCB is green, as you would expect from OEM modules, and the dimensions are also standard with a height of approx. 31 mm, so that aftermarket coolers can be mounted without any problems.
