Bambu Lab H2D AMS 2 Pro 3D printer in test – Two nozzles in long-term perspective

Commissioning

Once the printer has been unpacked for much longer than it has been assembled, you can start setting it up. First switch on the printer.

Taking pictures of screens, especially if they are reflective touchscreens, is unfortunately always a bit unsightly. So please excuse the mediocre quality.

The appropriate region is selected after the language.

Furthermore, the full range of Bambu Lab functions can only be accessed with an account and Internet connection, so the printer requires a WLAN connection. However, this step can also be skipped.

At this point, the device can then be linked to the app and thus to an account.

If you decide to do this, you must also accept the terms and conditions.

However, the transfer of anonymized data can be rejected.

The four locking screws should now be removed from the print bed at the latest, as it will be moved in the next step.

This is followed by about 31 minutes of calibration and self-testing, for which the printer should ideally be in the place where you will be using it.

At best, you will receive this message at the end.

Depending on the combination in which an AMS is connected to the printer, you must then assign this to a hotend.

Software

After various controversial changes to the extent to which Bambu Lab printers can be accessed via the network, the full range of functions can only be accessed directly via Bambu Studio, here most recently in version 02.04.00.70.

The user interface and user experience is excellent, no question about it, but this “walled garden” approach does not meet with my enthusiasm either. Even if I have little hope that it will change again, I would very much like to see alternatives developed by the community, such as Orca Slicer, being fully supported again, instead of putting obstacles in its way.
