Many people have probably already noticed, but the success of Steam Deck has triggered a new renaissance of handheld consoles, so to speak. But even before that, retro fans in particular were able to enjoy emulator machines to go, often not on an x86 basis, but with ARM and Android. And it is precisely two such systems that we are looking at together today.
Packaging and scope of delivery
Anbernic offers very different form factors so that different preferences can be catered for. The rather plain packaging already reveals the exterior, but more on that in a moment.
As you can see, the RG406V is roughly modeled on a Gameboy, while the RG556 looks more like a PSP or modern handheld console.
The inside is simple, but well packaged. If the cardboard of the box isn’t enough, a layer of perfectly cut foam will hopefully prevent further damage.
Both models are equipped with the same accessories. In addition to a USB Type-C charging cable, a short manual, cleaning cloths and a screen protector are also included.
I would also apply the “armored glass” immediately after unpacking, because then you can save yourself the cleaning. The wide RG556 was very easy to attach, whereas the more rectangular and slightly deeper screen of the RG406V was a bit fiddly.
