Ergonomics
Let’s start with the workmanship and materials. Predominantly inexpensive plastic is used, but it is well made. The stand is made entirely of plastic, which means that the monitor wobbles considerably when the desk is shaken. Visually, the plastic is reminiscent of carbon, at least the surface is designed accordingly, which leaves a decent impression overall. Ergonomically, the monitor offers height adjustment, a tilt function and pivot for portrait mode. However, a swivel function is missing. At least the P2712V supports VESA mounting!
The built-in IPS panel is matt and, in addition to UHD resolution, also offers dual mode for Full HD with a high refresh rate. For all those who do not want to do without a higher color depth, it should be mentioned that the P2712V works with 8 bit plus FRC and an RGB subpixel layout. Text display does not cause any problems, not least thanks to the high pixel density of 163 PPI, although this is only achieved in UHD mode.
Connections
Titan Army is generous when it comes to connections – more or less. There are two DisplayPort connections according to version 1.4 with DSC, two HDMI 2.1 inputs and a 3.5 millimeter jack for audio. This means that both PC users and console gamers are well served. Variable refresh rates are supported via Adaptive Sync, ensuring both FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility. The scope of delivery includes an external power supply, a cable clip and a DisplayPort cable.
OSD menu
The OSD menu is operated using four buttons on the bottom right-hand edge of the screen. This is somewhat more cumbersome than a joystick, but proves to be functional in practice. Overall, the menu navigation is very intuitive and offers numerous functions, from Shadow Boost to crosshairs and RGB settings. The overdrive options are somewhat hidden: Picture Mode, then Standard Mode, then On and accessible via the Custom area, where you have to work your way up to the Dynamic OD setting.
Given the price, you shouldn’t expect miracles. Ultimately, it’s what the panel does that counts, and that’s what I’m going to take a closer look at now.
