Price development of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti in Japan

The price development of the GeForce RTX 5070 series in Japan has changed significantly in just a few weeks and is increasingly attracting the attention of market observers and buyers. The GeForce RTX 5070 Ti in particular has recently seen an unusually rapid increase in street prices. Within just one week, the lowest available offer price rose by around 15,000 yen. This means that the cheapest model currently observed is now clearly above the previous lows that had characterized the market for several months. This dynamic is striking in that the Japanese market is traditionally known for offering graphics cards below the official recommended retail price relatively quickly after market launch.

After the launch, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti was initially traded well below the official launch price in Japan. In the meantime, individual offers were around 20,000 yen below the recommended retail price. This phase now seems to be over for the time being. Many models are currently trading at or above the original starting price. Only a single model from a board partner is currently particularly cheap, while other variants are being offered at noticeably higher prices. The speed of this price increase differs significantly from the otherwise rather slow and gradual adjustments that are usually observed.

The GeForce RTX 5070 also shows a comparable, albeit less pronounced, development. After initial price drops to values well below the official recommended retail price, the cheapest offers have now become noticeably more expensive again. Although the current entry-level price is still below the official RRP in Japan, the gap is shrinking continuously. Although the weekly adjustments are more moderate than for the RTX 5070 Ti, they also indicate a stable upward trend. This means that for the first time in months, a phase can be observed in which both models in the series are becoming more expensive at the same time.

An international comparison reveals a differentiated picture. While prices are currently rising in Japan, individual models of the GeForce RTX 5070 are still available below the official recommended retail price in other regions, particularly North America. The situation for the RTX 5070 Ti is also more tense there, as offers below RRP are becoming rarer. This indicates that regional factors play a significant role and that the development is not exclusively limited to local market mechanisms.

Rising costs and potential bottlenecks in graphics memory are cited as the main reasons for the price movements. Both GDDR6 and GDDR7 memory have recently been affected by price increases. As modern graphics cards attribute a significant proportion of their material costs to the memory used, changes in this area have a direct impact on production costs. In addition, several branches of industry are simultaneously dependent on high-performance memory chips, which can further increase price pressure. In such an environment, board partners and distributors often react with short-term price adjustments as soon as procurement costs change.

Market psychology also plays a role that should not be underestimated. Previous phases of strongly fluctuating GPU prices have shown that even moderate supply shortages or rising costs can quickly lead to precautionary price mark-ups. Traders not only calculate current costs, but also possible future risks. Especially in a market like Japan, which has long been characterized by comparatively low graphics card prices, such adjustments are particularly noticeable and are perceived with corresponding intensity.

Conclusion

The recent price increases for the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and GeForce RTX 5070 in Japan mark a clear departure from the previously stable phase of falling or stagnating prices. While the RTX 5070 Ti recorded a particularly significant price jump within a short period of time, the RTX 5070 is also showing a continuous upward trend. Rising memory prices and a tight supply situation for GDDR memory are seen as key influencing factors. Whether this will lead to a longer-term phase of significantly higher GPU prices cannot be verified at present. However, the current development is increasing uncertainty in the market and indicates a more sensitive price structure than in recent months.
