The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding the Middle East

The Washington Post recently posted a “Complete Idiot’s Guide to Understanding the Middle East” drawn by an Egyptian blogger. I have redrawn the diagram below, in an attempt to make things clearer. Blue links mean “supports,” while red links mean “hates.”

I suspect that all the diagram does is to clarify the muddled nature of Middle East politics. In particular, there are no real “blocs” – every group is connected by a web of alliances.

Nice drawing!!! 😉 That´s the reason why, when thinking of the middle eastern tragedy, the idea of “Why the hell can´t we just get out the civilians and build a wall around the region and let them kill themselves” appears in my mind very regularly.

Thanks, although the idea came from Egyptian blogger “The Big Pharaoh” (see link in the post). And, of course, most people in the region ARE civilians.
