LG is preparing to unveil several new monitors based on its own WOLED technology at CES 2026. According to TFTCentral, a particularly large tandem WOLED panel will be used in an ultrawide monitor for the first time. At the top of the new product range is a 39-inch model with a native resolution of 5,120 × 2,160 pixels, also known as WUHD or 5K2. This resolution combines the horizontal pixel count of classic 5K displays with a vertical height at UHD level and is aimed at both gamers and professional users with high demands on workspace and detail display.
The new model with the internal designation LG UW39 is said to rely on a curved panel that is designed to make the width of the format ergonomically usable. There is currently no official information on the refresh rate. Given the positioning of the device, a refresh rate of around 120 Hertz is considered likely, in line with industry practice. This assumption cannot be verified as LG has not yet published any technical data on this. However, the combination of high resolution, large panel and Tandem WOLED technology indicates a clear focus on the premium segment.
Tandem WOLED describes a further development of classic WOLED panels in which several emitting layers are arranged on top of each other. The aim of this design is to achieve higher peak brightness with improved efficiency and a longer service life. LG Display has already announced this technology in other product categories, but a broad market launch in the monitor sector is still pending. The presentation at CES 2026 would therefore represent an important step towards establishing this technology in the desktop segment.
In addition to the 39-inch ultrawide model, LG is also planning two new 27-inch monitors with a more classic format, according to the information available. The LG 27Q is to be characterized by particularly high refresh rates and offer a dual mode that switches between 1,440p at very high Hertz numbers and 720p with an even higher frame rate. The LG 27U, on the other hand, is intended to use a 4K panel with a high pixel density and is therefore aimed more at users who value maximum sharpness. Both models are also based on WOLED technology and are clearly aimed at the gaming market.
The official launch of all the monitors mentioned is expected to take place at CES 2026, which will be held in Las Vegas at the beginning of January. Prices, market launch and full technical specifications are not yet known and cannot be verified at this time.
Conclusion
With the announced 39-inch ultrawide monitor based on tandem WOLED, LG is hinting at a new performance class in the monitor segment. The combination of very high resolution, large curved panel and modern OLED advancement addresses both demanding gamers and professional users. Whether the concept is convincing in practice depends largely on the refresh rate, brightness, pricing and availability, which cannot be assessed until the official launch.
