With the Dark Rock 5, Be Quiet! presents the latest representative of its well-known high-end air cooler series, which is designed to harmonize performance and quietness. The manufacturer promises high cooling reserves combined with very low noise levels, which has been one of the brand’s key features for years. In contrast to the larger Dark Rock Pro 5, the new model is based on a more compact single-tower design, which should appeal to both enthusiasts and silent fans. The following test shows in detail whether the Dark Rock 5 fulfills this claim in practice and how it compares to its direct competitors.
Packaging and scope of delivery
The box of the Be Quiet! Dark Rock 5 has a classic, discreet design in black with high-quality printed elements. The cooler itself, the fan and central features such as “Silent Wings 4” and the high cooling capacity are prominently displayed on the front. The rear and side panels provide detailed information on technical data, compatibility with CPU sockets and special features such as the magnetic top cover or the ceramic particle coating.
Assembly and installation
The standard AMD backplate is used for mounting on the AM5 socket you are using. First remove the two factory plastic brackets from the mainboard. Then the supplied spacers are placed on the threaded bolts of the backplate before the metal mounting frame of the Dark Rock 5 is placed and fixed in position. The cooler itself is then positioned and tightened evenly to ensure a clean and constant contact pressure. Finally, the magnetic top cover and the fan are mounted so that the Dark Rock 5 is ready to cool the CPU efficiently.
